US considers tougher trade rules in China chip crackdown

The U.S. is contemplating severe trade restrictions on companies providing advanced semiconductor tech to China. Measures may include the Foreign Direct Product Rule, a provision dating back to 1959. Tokyo Electron and ASML Holding NV are among the companies mentioned. Discussions ongoing with officials in Tokyo and the Hague.
